Session 1
Overview and Introduction to Grantwriting


Review of course program and expectations
Overview of fundraising and grant writing in Israel
The ideal grant proposal: lecture and review of proposal elements (Executive Summary, Organizational Background, Problem Statement, Goals and Objectives, Program Description, Criteria for Success and Evaluation and Budget)
Different proposal formats – LOI, on-line, form, two stage, full proposal, etc.
Homework – Begin writing your proposal (Org. Background, Problem Statement, Goals and Objectives) for review in next session
Session 2
Working with Foundations

Critique and analysis of drafts of student grant proposal drafts
Working with foundations:  do's and don'ts, follow up procedures and maintaining relationships:
Foundation research: virtual and actual sources for finding foundations appropriate for your project
Homework: Revise draft proposals in accord with feedback and continue writing Project Description and Evaluation and/or complete prospect background sheet on someone you'd like to solicit for a contribution.
Session 3
Corporate fundraising

Corporate fundraising and partnerships
How to identify and locate potential corporate givers
Composing a business plan for nonprofit partnership
Involvement of corporate volunteers
In kind corporate giving
Cause related marketing
Tax issues
Critique and analysis of completed grant writing proposals
Session 4
Personal Solicitation – Workshop

The road - map for personal solicitation
How to identify and research prospects. Preparations before solicitation, who should be the solicitors?
Making the appointment, location.  presenting the case, making the ask and responding to common contributor reactions.
How to close the gift, what’s next?
Experiential simulation workshop on personal solicitation – role-playing and analysis
Critique and analysis of drafts of student grant proposal drafts
Homework: write up a plan for a fundraising event
Session 5
Planning Successful Fundraising Events

Principles for successful fundraising events
Appropriate types of events for different types of organizations
Use of volunteers
Budgeting the event – projected costs and income; How to ensure that your event is not only “successful” but also profitable
Critique and analysis of students’ grant proposal drafts
Homework: revise your fundraising event plan in light of lessons learned,  and/or draft a business plan for corporate sponsorship.
Session 6
Internet Fundraising

Internet fundraising
Critical resource development elements of a website
Review and analyses of sample successful sites
Use of social media and crowdfunding for fundraising
Job opportunities in the field of grant writing and fundraising in Israel. Career vs. freelance, How to find a grant writing position, freelance vs. salaried employment or employment  by the hour
Course evaluation and feedback, and review of other grant and foundation issues
Distribution of graduation certificates
